Rain, Rain, GO AWAY!

Sigh.  I planned on having a wonderful outdoor birthday party.  The forecast says 80% chance of rain….ugh!  I hate to replan things and resort to plan B.  But what can you do?

Anyway, here is a tiny peak into my little one’s birthday.  The invitation is meant to look like a bandana- which you’ll see more at the actual birthday.  These were wonderful to make.  I have to say invitations are my favorite thing to make graphically.  They definitely set the tone of the party.

Gotta run now, more crafting to do.

Flavor of the Month: Turning 30

Did I mention that I will be turning 30?  I am.  In a few days, to be exact.  And I have mixed feelings.  On one hand, I feel more aware of myself than ever before.  But on the other, it seems like everything that I want to achieve is still not at reach and I am still climbing.  I wonder if life will be a constant climb.  I wonder if there is ever a point of arrival where you realize that life is as it should be.  Forgive my silly rant on this pivotal point in my life.  Sometimes my mind  gets the best of me.

Another thought, what colors would best represent turning 30?  Hmm…for this month,

I choose these:

Last month it was white + gold. What will next month’s flavor be?

Show-off Wednesday

If you have read my about, you know that I enjoy showing off. But never before did I have a platform such as this little blog. Think of this more as a grown-up show and tell, with me doing all the showing.

Remember my guest blogger / interior designer friend?  He graciously called me when he needed a design for his business cards.  A logo and a business card is essentially a very important first impression.  My client, Richard, wanted something clean, minimal, and masculine.  This is his aesthetic and I think I nailed it.

Thanks Richard for letting me design your business cards!

Yum-yums

My little man’s two front teeth are poking through.  Just in time because he has also discovered food.  The expression on his sweet face is priceless as we give him new things to taste.  I can already tell that he will be an eater, just like dad.  Eager to devour, he slightly opens his tiny mouth into a perfect oval and holds his position waiting for

a

pear

apple

banana

grape…

And if he could talk his favorite word would certainly be yum-yums!

“OFF WITH HER HEAD!” the tiny queen said…

Last year, my little girl asked for an Alice in Wonderland birthday party. But my then, four-year olds birthday fell at the end of the year. And I could not throw the same Alice in Wonderland party that I had seen over and over on the blogosphere. Though I loved them all, I like to be original. So I decided it would be an Alice in wonderland party with a twist. An evil twist, that is. I kept picturing my sweet little one yelling, “Off with her Head!” And that is exactly what the invitations read.
We would throw a Queen of Hearts birthday party. One with painted white roses & red hearts, led by a tiny queen.

Here is the invitations designed by me. It was tiny and meant to look like a playing card. Included, in the envelope, was a magnifying glass for the teensy print.

I also made a little flip book a la Color Me Katie.

I made these hats using the original Adventures in Wonderland illustrations with some added diagonal stripes.

I designed the birthday banner in effort to take it easy. I was almost 7 months pregnant with my little boy. They ended up being so easy that my four-year old helped putting them together. I loved that I they could stand up on their own without needing to be hung up.  This was perfect for an outdoor setting.

I plan on making several variations of these. Custom orders welcome. I will have these in my shop very soon!

I made the kids’ party favor using tin baby food jars  filled with coco powder and custom labels that read Drink Me.

I almost made the pinata…almost.  Instead, I gave the my sketch to a pinata maker and she ended up doing an awesome job.

She kept saying, “Off with her head!” throughout the party, which was super cute.  Happy 5th birthday, my love!

It is officially one month or so before my young daughter’s 6th birthday. This year she wants a unicorn party.  The fun begins all over again!

I thoroughly enjoy graphic design. What I like most is the scale of it. Some people have a though time thinking small, but not me, no siree. The challenge of jumping from one scale to another is what gets me. First exhibit coming up.

This original logo and business card, I designed for a photographer. He is well-traveled and an all around super cool guy. The design really suited him.
